(I have to retype this because the site crapped out on me when I clicked "Add Diary Entry". >;[ )

I continued with Marty Chonks to do his last mission: Her Lover. It turns out his wife had been cheating on him with someone he owed money to. I picked him up as usual and brought him back to the factory, but Marty was outside waiting. He tried to invite the guy in, but the lover pulled out a shotgun and said "I'm taking over the business, Marty" and shot him. The mission officially ended there, so I killed the guy to take his shotgun. Free ammo!

After that, I decided to do Joey's last mission as well: The Getaway. This mission was ridiculously easy compared to his previous one. I had to be the driver for a bank robbery. After the robbery, I had three stars, but immediately dropped one by picking up a police bribe in an alley. I then drove to a Pay 'n Spray to get rid of the remaining two. Then I just easily drove back to their hideout to finish the mission.

I decided to goof off for the remainder of the 30 minutes because that's really what I did most when I last played this game. To me, Grand Theft Auto 3 is a sandbox with endless goof-around opportunities, with some missions to do on the side if you felt like it. I completed a few Unique Jumps and grabbed a couple of Hidden Packages, but for the most part, I was driving around like an idiot. For example, I stole a Rumpo, which is a van, and immediately tipped it on its side after hitting a grassy bump. The vehicle got caught on its side (it's supposed to stand back up) between the road and the bump and was making a lot of collision noises. Eventually, the car lit on fire and I had to get out of it. Although I lost my ride, my friends and I got a good laugh from it.

I started off this session with a mission from Joey: Cipriani's Chauffeur. It's funny to note that throughout the game, they pronounce "Cipriani" with both a soft and hard initial C. Anyway, this was a breeze. I had to stop at a laundromat for Tony to talk to people who haven't been paying protection money, but things turn sour and I have to drive back to Tony's place while being chased by Triads. Nothign hard at all.

I love Tony, he's such a hardass in person, but is actually emotional inside because of how his mother treats him. If you pay attention to the radio, one of Lazlo's call-ins is Tony. He'll say something like "I'd rather not give my name." and then goes on to say "My mom, she's always complainin' at me, she goes 'Tony, Tony, you don't work hard at all!'" and Lazlo would say "Well, Tony--" and Tony cuts him off going "How'd you know my name? I never told you my name. Who are you?" Oh, it's such a great conversation.

Anyway, after that, I did a few Marty Chonks missions. He runs the Bitch'n Dog Food factory. His missions always involve picking someone up and taking them back to the factory so he can kill them for whatever reasons. I did "The Thieves", in which Marty hires thieves to steal stuff from his house so he can collect insurance money, but they threaten to tell the company, and "The Wife", where Marty needs some extra money, so he kills his wife to collect on her insurance policy. During one of these missions, I heard a piece of one of my favorite radio commercials. "Tired of man's best friend? [child's voice:] Sorry Fido, we're gonna have to drown you!"

Lastly, I did another mission for Joey: "Dead Skunk in the Trunk". I hate this mission and I've always hated this mission. I had to take a car to the crusher, but two cars are always chasing me and it's just aggravating and annoying because you are in a piece of junk Manana. After dying twice, I finally finished it on my third attempt.

A week or so ago, some friends were talking about Grand Theft Auto 3 and it rekindled an interest in me, so I started a save up. I only did the first few missions before turning the Xbox 360 off because I couldn't stand the Xbox port's control scheme.

I started back up again today with a mission from Joey: Farewell "Chunky" Lee Chong. I was to take out a noodle vendor in Chinatown because he was starting to sell a new drug on the streets from Columbians ("from Columbia... or Colorado... or something, whatever."). I drove over to the spot and activated the chase sequence without realizing I don't know how to lock on. I failed the mission because he got away and I had to go restart it. As I was driving back to Chinatown, I looked in the options to figure out what Lock-on was and noticed "Default" or "Classic" control settings. I changed to Classic and it was just like the PS2's controls: heaven.

Once switched, I completed the mission with ease. On to the next one: Van Heist. I had to damage a van carrying lots of money and deliver it to the docks. Again, I failed this mission at first because I didn't really think it through. I had grabbed the nearest car and started hitting the van. My car soon caught on fire, so I ditched it and stole another. Right as I got in, a cop pulled me back out and arrested me. Busted! The next, and final, time around, I stole a firetruck and used it's massive hulking momentum to destroy the van. Within two or three hits, the drivers ditched, I stole the van, and delivered it to it's "rightful" place.

For the remainder of the 30 minutes, I drove around the city, remembering all the various places and quotes from the radio stations. Back during the beginning of high school, this game used to be my life. It'll always hold a special place in my heart. The fact that the main character doesn't have a name (as of GTA3, you actually learn his name is Claude in San Andreas) and never speaks at all adds a certain aura. You are almost a mindless drone, doing missions for whoever pays you, and you often do missions for opposing teams.
