For my second 30 min game play, I basically just did the same thing as I did the first time. I went on some more crime sprees and went on to eventually start playing the actual levels of the game. While playing the game again, I started taking down notes on some of the key themes I noticed while playing this game. One of the biggest themes in this game has to do with racism, poverty, and gang activities. For the most part, the majority of characters in this game are African American and Latino, while the cops are mainly Caucasian.
The cops in this game also are portrayed as being both bigoted and corrupted. Instead of organized crime like in vice city, this game basically revolves around gangland activity and warfare with several different gangs similar to crips, bloods, and latin kings. A lot of the criminal activity includes drugs, weapons, and prostitution. If anything, this games atmosphere seems to be all about stereotypes. This includes the stereotypical gang bangers of south central being African American and Latino. The racist white cop is also another example of stereotyping in this game.
Although, I think this game is very entertaining to say the least, I can also understand why this game would be considered as offensive and immoral. This is definitely a game that would be considered as expectable only for mature audiences. This isn’t the right game to buy for a 9 year old basically because it is just too violent. When I was young my parents always thought mortal kombat was way too violent, but after playing this game, MK looks like pac man compared to the amount of violence in this game. Along with violence, other things that can be perceived as being immoral are the use of drugs as well as prostitution in this game. The negative stereotyping can also be considered to offensive to some as well mainly because of the strong themes of racism and injustice.
Even though this game can be viewed as being offensive and too violent, I still nonetheless had a fun time playing it because after all it is just a video game.

This was the first time I ever played this game on ps2. I really don’t play that many video games, but I can say that this was pretty entertaining. The game basically revolves around a gang member who is African American and the storyline takes place sometime in the early 1990’s. The setting is basically a mix of Los Angeles and has a casino setting like Vegas but with fictional names. There is also a little bit of San Francisco in it with a bridge very similar to the golden gate bridge. The whole atmosphere is really similar to the LA riots that occurred in the early 90’s and includes a lot of hip hop culture especially with the music playing on the radio. Prior to this game, I had played the vice city game once before, and it was basically the same concept except that the story takes place in vice city similar to Miami in the 1980’s and has very Scarface like them to it.
For my first 30 minute play, I basically just went around on a crime spree with the main character just carjacking people and shooting them. When you commit crimes in this game you basically dig your self in a hole with felonies and the more crimes you commit, the more cops you have on your tail. I lasted for quite a while and then I was eventually pulled from the stole taxi by the police and had a helicopter chasing me as well. Overall, I thought it was a pretty entertaining game during my first 30 minutes of game play.
