Mar 9th, 2009 at 22:22:54     -    Super Columbine Massacre (Arcade)

I played my final game of columbine massacre and I won't miss it. I forgot to save my data from last game so I had to go pass the hall monitors again and place the bombs in the cafeteria. This time, I realized that it is easier to kill a girl in this game than it is to kill a boy. I also realized that it's harder to kill the "jocks" because they are fighting back most of the time. I died several times trying to kill the jocks, so at the end I tried to avoid them as much as I could. When I was in the hall I ran into two new types of students:a "gay boy" and a "black boy", but I only ran into them once. It seems like they were made as the minorities in the high school. I also found it interesting that points were taken a/way from me when I ran into a religious boy/girl who could pray. Why couldn't anyone else do that? I didn't like how once you ran into someone you had to kill them, you couldn't just walk away.

I traveled all the way to the library and killed some more students until the cops came, and then we (Erik and Dylan) killed ourselves. I found it very disturbing that the game included pictures from the actual event of students crying over the deaths of their loved ones. I can't understand why someone would make a video game that has to do with the horrific event, but by including pictures...I think that's wrong. It makes it so much more real. And then pictures of the two shooters were shown which made me feel like the game maker had sympathy for them. At the end, Dylan woke up in hell without Erik and was killed by some sort of demon, and that's when I stopped playing.

All I could keep on thinking as I played the game was, how could the game maker think of conversations between the two characters, and how could he have known exactly what they felt like? He made it seem like this world and the people in it are the reason they ended up shooting up their school in the first place. Our world may not be perfect, I'm not always happy with the people I meet or the things certain people do; but, I would never think of doing something like they did.

    Entry 2
I finally got passed the hall monitors and made my way into the cafeteria where I put two bombs under two tables next to two separate vending machines. I feel awful playing this game because the only way I can succeed at it is by doing violent acts. When I left the cafeteria to meet my buddy I was caught several times again by the hall monitors and I got so angry but I couldn't stop playing because I had to at least get out of that building while still succeeding at my mission. When I finally made it outside and met my buddy in the park all they talked about was how horrible the people of Denver were because they were rich and snobby and all about exercise, eating healthy, working hard constantly, and treating the environment better. They hated Denver people because of that? They were making it seem as though all Denver people were the same, and that was a bad thing, which is why they wanted to kill them all if they could.

After we looked out over the city we went back and geared up to start killing people. Every time I got close to a person a stereotype defining that individual would pop up whether it was a "jock", "church girl", "pretty girl", "preppy girl","nerdy girl", "preppy boy", etc. Everyone that was a part of any of those categories were killed, and my buddy and I only spared one life in the beginning because he wasn't a pert of any of those stereotypes. The only point of the game was to keep on killing. I thought it was awful and disturbing. What is the value of a video game when all you do is kill? What I found to be even more disturbing was how excited both of the characters were about how the media would be all over their story.

When I killed a certain amount of people in the building and image of President Clinton on tv popped up onto the screen and spoke out to the world about what was going on in the high school. I got shivers and teary eyed. That was when I ran into a group of jocks and both my buddy and I were attacked when trying to kill them. The game ended then and there.

When I heard about this video I was shocked that it was even made because the actual shooting at Columbine were devastating. Who would want to remake the event in a video game? I read someone else's Log and they said the game was banned from a fair, I'm not surprised. This game must have been a horrible flash back to the students, teachers, friends and family that experienced the actual massacre.

To be honest I wasn't very thrilled to play this video game, and as I began to play I had some problems figuring out what to do at first. I, a.k.a. Eric, walked into the basement and gathered my equipment together before Dylan met me. Both of them seemed so depressed and angry towards the world. It was weird that the game was showing both of the shooters sides of the event and in a way taking their side. It was as though they were justifying their actions in a way. They decided to do what they did because nobody respected them? That is no reason to go and shoot school mates and teachers.

I have played the game Super Columbine Massacre for more than thirty minutes and I still can't get into the cafeteria. It seems like everywhere I go I am spotted, but I finally started to notice that if I follow the water fountains or statues in the room and go to the side their on I can get further. I still can't get by the hall monitors and it's getting frustrating!!

I still can’t figure out how exactly to read the map and it’s getting frustrating. I really want to try and see if I can get to a higher level so I am going to be serious this time without purposely killing people (unless I have to in order to stay alive), and without doing anything to attract the cops. I didn’t steel a car, and instead walked home but I got scared every time I saw a black man wearing a bandana because usually they start shooting at me. This made me think about people who play this game all the time, and whether or not they have ever started reacting like I did to the black men in the game to people that look similar in reality. The language is another thing that was shocking to hear for a video game. The words “bitch”, “punto”, “shit”, “fuck”, “asshole” are used so often by the characters, and can affect the players vocabulary usage of those words. It’s possible that if people hear things over and over they will start saying the same things too. I also noticed how some of the black characters are either smoking or holding 40’s of beer as they are walking on the street. When I was walking I found steel knuckles under a bridge and decided to go punch a random person who ended up having a knife so when I killed them I got a weapon in return. The killing was so gory though and the blood kept gushing out all over the street. Even though the blood didn’t look real at all it was still a very vivid killing. I also noticed that when I do start a fight with a random person nobody else does anything to stop it except for the cops. You can get away with anything in this game as long as the cops aren’t there. I honestly don’t get the point of this game, even though there is a story line where the player (a.k.a me) is supposed to clean the streets it doesn’t seem too easy. I think there is too much violence, racial slurs, and bad stereotypes that are pointed out in the game. I don’t think this will be one of my top picks next time I decide to play a video game.
