Yay! I finished this game, and all is good. It was fun even though the missions are highly scripted, the AI ain't that special (as far as I could tell), and it is totally unrealistic. Like I said before, Indiana Jones-like adventures aren't a bad thing in my book.
After finishing the Russian missions I did another Yank and another Limey one. After that, the final Russian mission (lets plant the hammer and sickle on top of the Reichstag!) Great fun even if the last mission was amazingly short. At least it felt so!
The end credits of the game are fun to watch, the sound effects are incredibly good and the score picks up at the right moment. Funny last thing, as me and my comrades storme the Reichstag I couldn't help notice that a few of them got run over by a tank. Right next to me in fact. I don't know if this was scripted or not, but I did think it was rather funny in a "this is only a game" kind of way. I'm sure that sort of thing happened more often that you think...

Yup. It's been a few days of FPS time. All is well.
I'm enjoying this game a lot, and I'm a REALLY good shot with the sniper rifle. Hehehe. The soviet campaign is really fun and really a rip-off from that movie about the siege of Stalingrad. That's ok though. I don't mind scripted scenes as long as they are tense, fun and set the mood. This game does that really well. The audio is particularly good. Phew! What a lot of noise!

I finished the Brit campaign which was rather shorted than I expected. I guess I'm wondering whether or not I'll get to play the Yanks and the Brits again...
Anyways, I've started the Soviet campaign and the beginning is really cool... If you saw "Enemy at the Gates" you'll know what I'm talking about. I haven't actually started it yet, but I am looking forward to it.
A minor detail that I thought was really nice is that all the menus are different (the backdrop, not the options) depending on the nationality you are currently playing. The loading screens change too. I thought this was a nice detail that adds a lot of flavor. (when the gameplay from nationality to nationality is essentially the same) Nice!

I am now infiltrating (though my cover didn't last long) a german destroyer in Norway. I already finished playing the US-centric missions and moved on to the British ones. It is kind of amusing how the "radio-chatter" is different and you really get a different feeling for the game even though the gameplay is basically the same. Hearing all the NPCs talk in british accents just makes it more fun.
This game is definitely really cool and really surprising in a in-your-face-no-suspense type of way. I've had to fire my way to safety from the back of a truck as it careens along a twisty mountain road, I have had to shoot down planes with an AA gun, etc. All of this while listening to a pretty neat score.
Does this feel like in a "Band of Brothers"? Do I feel like I'm "Saving Private Ryan"? Not really. The action is to over the top. It's not realistic in a dirty gritty way. What it really feels like is an adventure. This game is 100% Indiana Jones style action except for the German soldiers not being caricatures of eeeeevil. I wonder if I can turn of the music and play the Indiana Jones score instead? That would really rock!

I love WWII-themed FPS games. At least I've loved the ones I've played on the PC. Actually, it seems that I've only played one. (Medal of Honor Allied Assault). I guess I just have a positive vibe about WWII games in general? (though I never really got into Commandos).
Anyways, I installed this and booted it up the other night. It is really cool. I felt that the missions, although scripted and all, were pretty exciting and adrenalinic. (if that word even exists). My wife had to keep asking me to turn down the volume on the speakers 'cause it was too loud.
I'm surprised by how much familiarity I have with the historical setting in which the missions I've played so far take place. The whole airborne operations before D-Day. St. Mere Eglise, etc. It doesn't make me feel more empathic towards the NPCs (which are pretty good I must say, none of this standing around and getting shot)...but it makes the whole game feel more, hmmm, realistic. (though I know it is not..)
