My wife booted this up the other day and we had SUCH a laugh. She hand't played in (according to all the game characters) at least 6 weeks. So, first of all, all the neighbors were like "yo, where have you been?". The town was literally taken over by weeds and.... (this is the best part), her house was infested with cockroaches!
Hahahahahahahaha! You step on them and they disappear in a little puff of smoke! Hahahahahahahaha!
She also got (we have no idea where..) some mushrooms which we have yet to find out how they are to be used.

For the first time in my life (as far as I know) I've bought a peripheral for just one game. I don't think the dance mat counts since I played lots of different DDR games on it.. Anyways, I bought the GBA-GB cable link only because I wanted to see what this extra island was all about.
Initially I was a bit let down, after all the island is basically..and island! (though now we have access to coconuts and palm trees!) There is a dude who lives there and with whom you can apparently trade things. Neither my wife nor I have gotten into this entirely... though the information we've been able to find on Gamefaqs is very promising indeed! (rare items, etc.)
What is really cool is that, if you like, you can download a mini-version of the island to your GBA! (which you can't turn off...otherwise you'll lose it). I'm not sure what kind of stuff you can do on the GBA yet, but it deserves further exploration that's for sure.

My wife just finished paying off Tom Nook for her house. The last loan. Nook was a real sport and had a golden statue of her placed just south of the train station. It has a little plaque which thanks her for paying off the debt in a timely fashion. I wonder if I'll also get one even though I'm waaaaay behind in my payments.

I played a little more Animal Crossing last night but it's definitely starting to wear a bit thin. I sort of feel like when I'm checking one of my obscure e-mail accounts that maybe get something once a month. I'm basically making sure that al l the animals are "happy". Funnily enough, they were all kind of snarky to me! Hey, it's been 3 weeks since I last saw you, where have you been, yadda yadda. Cute.
I guess one of the main reasons I'm still interested in the game is that I want to get all the bugs, catch all the fish and so on. (we completed the fossil collection!) On the other hand, I know that many of the fish (and I suspect the bugs too) are seasonal. I won't see them or catch them unless it's winter, or fall or whatever. So, I'm kind of stuck in a rut where I wish the real-world clock would tick faster in order to make the Animal Crossing clock move along too.
I want to see some Animal Crossing snow!
On the other hand, there are still plenty of surprises... my wife went to an aerobics class where the well is! Cool! (I think you have to play at 7am or something like that...that's NOT going to happen any time soon...)

I'm still paying off my debt to 'ole Nook and I really want to get the basement add on so I can hoard items. Sigh.
The upside is that my wife has been playing a bit with my account in order to help with my financial situation (she plays a lot more than I do) so I'm not THAT far behind.
Our town (we called it Atlanta...how original) has been doing well. We now have cherries and peaches as well as the original pears. Also, I was able to catch a coelacanth the other night! (it was a dark and stormy night). Above all I was interested in the 15,000 bells it's worth...hehehe.

I made a mistake. A big mistake.
I finished paying for my house upgrade (yay!) and was then offered one of two options: make it larger or build a basement. I opted for the first. It costs almost $400,000!! (the basement only costs about $80,000).
Noooooooooooooooooo!
I really need the extra room and the basement is GREAT for that. The house expansion? Not that big. I'm already cramped...(and my house only awards me something like 19,000 pts...). Sigh. It will take me a really long time to gather that kind of cash, though at least I've figured out how to fish properly (and there are fish you can sell for $3,000!).
I think I've reached a slump in the game... I don't really want to do all the work needed to get the cash to pay for the upgrade, but I also want to have a basement.

Curse you Tom Nook! Why do I have to feel like a poor thirld-world country in debt? All I want is a house to live in and enjoy... Why can't I make my own extensions?
:-)
I am so close, but still too far from paying off my debt. The worst part is that I know that as soon as I pay, I'll get suckered into a bigger (better?) pad. Sigh. The joys of a capitalist society...must..have..more... stuff... now!

Wahoo! The site is back online for a few months...and I've really been itching to get some more "updates" on the cool stuff I've found in Animal Crossing. Here goes:
1) There is a rock that turns red and releases 100 bells when you hit it with the space.
2) Red Snappers are awesome. (they sell for 3,000 at Tom Nook's)
3) Totakeke (K.K. Slider) is cool, but his music comes without his singing. Why? Sigh.
4) There is a fishing tournament in June (on Sundays), but I couldn't catch anything.
5) I love Gyroids. (I have a lot of them...hehehe)
6) My stupid peach tree died. (disappeared). My town only has pear trees, so it was going to be something special.
7) A shipwrecked bird washed up on the shore the other day. He didn't give me anything though.

Here's a list of cool stuff we (my wife and I) have discovered in Animal Crossing:
1) If yo ubury a sack of bells (money) a tree grows in its place...and its "fruit" is...sacks of bells!
2) Weeding can be fun.
3)It always rains. (at least when we play at night)
4)Toom Nook should have his store open longer.
5) Don't get stung by bees. (when chopping down trees).
6) The Post office pelican is REALLY rude in the evening...but really sweet in during the day (we're not exactly sure it is the same character).
7) Running scares the fishes.
Cool, eh?
Now I want to go visit someone else's town...

I wrote another letter to those fleabag "friends" of mine. We shall see what they say this time.
On another note, I have finished paying off the house and, as a good consumerist (does that word exist in english?), have immediately requested a remodelation that should provide me with some more space to store all the junk I have been collecting.
The strange thing is that I've only been playing at night, so I'm sure I'm missing a lot of stuff. This is the sort of game that really plays like an MMO even though there is only one player at a time. I also want to go see K.K. Slider...but I'm not sure I'll be able to. Sigh. So much to do, and so little time.

The day before yesterday I wrote 3 letter to some of the other animals living in town. I even attached some presents! (free pears...ok, cheap...but I had nothing else).
Yesterday I had three replies. Each one of them was from an annoyed "friend" complaining about my letter! Huh? You ungrateful little fleabags! I wrote real, nice letters! (short, but friendly, for example "Hi, I hope you are ok. Lets be friends". Geez...what's up with that?

I recently got a Gamecube and this is one of the games I've been most excited about. Yes, I've read all about it and yes, I already know that it is great, and yes I'm that this is a game that I'll be able to play with my wife. We'll see about that.
Anyways, this game is just soooo cute. The other little characters, the way they talk, the way their faces change. It really is an amazing little (ok, not so little) piece of design work. I'm really impressed by how much care was taken to make everything feel like part of the Animal Crossing world. The saving, the loading, etc.
Thus far, there are few things that are annoying enough to get me all flustered...which is a good sign. I hate that it swallows an entire memory card and I'm also finding that sometimes there are too many menus to navigate through...for example, if you want to donate 3 fossils to the museum at the same time...it...takes... forever.
It is still lovely. I'm just ranting.
