SUMMARY
THPS4 is a skating game that stretches across several new and increasingly difficult levels filled with tricky objectives and hosted by a crew of friendly looking skater punks. The main objective is to collect all possible collectible objects, such as levels, skaters, and gear by completing more objectives in the levels, or by collecting money found strewn about the levels. The game's multi player mode is renowned for it's level of fun at parties or small get togethers.

After busting out another hour, my mind hasn't changed much. I still think the characters are dull and need their own story lines to follow in the game, I still think that it's exactly like the other games, just with better graphics and flow, and I still think it's totally boss. The one thing that has changed is that I can see how this game can get old fast. As ridiculously cool as it is, there are just so many limits. Not only are the objectives in each level repetitive, save a few random ones that really incorporate some crazy new approach, like trying to hold on to the back of some felon's car as he speeds away from a crime scene, but what happens after I drop a few hours into the game and beat it? Similarly, the games in multi player get old. I can only whoop on my crew for so long before it just gets too easy. That kind of threw me off.
Aside from that though, after a few hours, the novelty has yet to wear off. I've gotten as far as the shipyard level since I started on Thursday afternoon, and I'm still really into it. Multi player is still fun, if a worthy opponent steps up (ha), and I'm curious to see what the next levels are like, especially the carnival. It's also a change of pace to play with a few cheats on, like moon gravity, just to get a different feel from the levels. I would imagine that a person could invest a pretty large amount of time into this game without it getting boring at any point. This game is well worth the $20 any local Target would charge, and if you haven't played it yet, you should.

SUMMARY
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is, as the name may suggest, a skating game. What you might not have known though, is that it incorporates a few new moves that other skating games of the day didn't have, namely spine transfers and old school , free-style skating moves, and it takes you across all sorts of zany new levels in a nice sequential gameplay style. Each level provides the gamer with neat little challenges that involve high scores, combos, and street luge competitions with the homeless. The overall goal of the game is to beat all levels, challenges, pro challenges, buy all items and skaters from a skater store, and to buy all the videos the game has to offer.
GAMEPLAY
The first thing I noticed was how much smoother it was than the earlier installments. It seemed to really flow and run faster, and the graphics have come pretty far since the original that started the craze. The characters the game had to offer were decked out in clothes that spoke to my generation and had fun catchphrases that made them seem unique and different, but don't be fooled; the characters are the same, bland characters that they were in all the installments. Having a few new characters, or having different game progressions for different characters would have been jazzy, but it seems that EA Games didn't care. Aside from that drawback, the rest of it was a cooler version of all the last installments I have come to love. The levels were all different and challenging, especially as the game progressed, and all the challenges the levels held kept me busy for a while. It was fun, despite the fact that it was more or less the same game as the previous versions.
Multi player mode was the whiskers on the cat for sure, though. I played with my friends Jeb and Lyle for a solid 45 minute session, and jeepers was it fun. We played a few of the games multi player had to offer, such as horse, trick attack, and graffiti, and it got pretty intense. We pulled out a few combos well into the hundred-thousand mark, and voices were raised. But as intense as it was, it still didn't have a three player mode, so taking turns was kind of a drag, but it was still way cool. So, ultimately, the first hour and some change have led me to believe that this game is a solid 4 star game.
