After playing Super Mario Brothers 3 for the NES for a longer time, my statement stands, it is a great CLASSIC.
GAMEPLAY
After playing the game for an extended period of time I still find it fun and attractive. The interesting thing about it is that for me it is a love and hate relationship. You play for 30min and then you die and have to redo what you just spent the last 15 min on. You say "screw this!" and walk away, then 5 min later you walk back and say "no, I am going to beat this".
The gameplay flows and the levels are different enough that it is not repetitive. Also you have that amazing soundtrack of funny beeps and noises to motivate you while you play. You find your self adding to this music with your own interesting sounds before too long.
DESIGN
The design of this game was amazing for its time, and to still be playing it so long in the future it must have to be amazing. What I think makes it such a good game is that it is simple to play but amazingly difficult to master. You can always get better at it. There are also different ways of solving each obstacle. You can take your time or try and run right through everything. The tone of the game is uplifting. A perfect example of this is that on one of the world maps the background pixels that form palm trees dance to the music. This game is fun while being attractive because it get hard.
I found myself loosing interest at some times. You get stuck on a level and after trying so many times, you still lose. One negative thought that I have on this game is that you can work so hard on progressing in the game and then hit a hard spot and have to do so much over again. Then to get back to the spot and die again, this is where you lose some of your audience.
After playing this game, I am a little inspired to create my own game. This game has simple graphics and simple movement yet is fun. This shows me that to create a good game you do not need to have amazing graphics.
All in all, Super Mario Brothers 3 is a great game and will definitely be remembered as one of the first CLASSICS.

SUMMARY
I am writing this GameLog for Super Mario Brothers 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Super Mario Brothers 3 is a platformer game. You move the avatar across a 2D environment from left to right overcoming obstacles as you go. You control Mario as he moves left, right and jumps. When he lands on top of a bad guy the enemy is eliminated. The object of the game is to reach the other side of the level without loosing your limited number of lives.
GAMEPLAY
I was very happy to get Super Mario Brothers 3 working, and I say working because it is very, very old technology. I have to admit that since I have an HDTV I have not seen static and the famous vertical scrolling screen in a long time. When I first got to the menu my find was in a constant flashback. The second the music hits your ears you are absorbed in the days of old where all you did was play this game. I then decide to see why I played this game so much. I start a new game and get to it. I get about 10 steps and one of those little monsters kill me. "Wow! this is alot harder than I remember" After a few more tires the controls come back to me and I am off in this mesmerizing world again.
You play as Mario trying to get to the Princess. The story is simple yet complex. There are not pages of dialog, instead it is pretty much one liners and get playing. The cool thing about this game is that you pick it up and play. It is fun and sucks you into it.
It is a great social interaction with others too because if you suck like me, your lives are not too long and you just trade off the controller, while the others heckle you as you die.
Years after release, Super Mario Brothers 3 is still an amazing game, a true CLASSIC!
