Gameplay
The one player mode doesn't really have a story at all. Basically just battle through a series of opponents. I enjoyed the different single player levels, because it gets you doing more than just brawling. The break the target and board the platform levels gives you an opportunity to master your powers in other ways and it gets you to use powers for other reasons than just killing.
I also liked the team battles in the 1 player mode. They gave you an opportunity to learn new strategies, and help when you couldn't do it on your own. I didn't enjoy the master hand on the last level. I felt it limited some characters because thier special powers would not work on the boss. This causes you to just have to resort to melee attacks which are the same for all the characters.
Design
This game was a completely new and innovative game. Its an instant classic that can hardly go old. The most innovative aspect was bringing together a cast of the most popular Nintendo characters and giving them attacks just to brawl and battle it out between themselves. The characters are all equal and have specials that vary them from others. The levels are all 2-D but this keeps it simple. The levels are all different settings that match a character. Basically they are all a platform that you can fall off of or knock your opponent off.
This game doesn't have a story or much of a reward system, but it definitely creates so much emotion between the players. The reward for this game is irritating your opponent by knocking them off. Which for a multi player game is a huge reward for any gamer.

Summary
In Super Smash Brothers you control one out of 12 of your favorite and most popular characters from Nintendo games. In mulitiplayer you battle against three other characters using a combination of melee and special attacks. As you damage another player their damage percentage increases, and the more damaged you are the further you fly after being hit. The goal is to knock your opponents off of the platform you are playing on, and the last one standing wins.
Gameplay
This game really gets you into it by creating instant competition against you and your friends. It got people upset almost every time that they died. It was awesome to see characters like Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Kirby battle it out. Each Character has their own special abilities and powers, but they made it so not one character has an advantage over any other. This added to the social play because anyone had a chance to win.
The controls for each character are virtually the same. You can master one character and quickly catch on how to use another character. A big part of each level are the items. You can pick up various items that fall from the sky to brawl with. Items can change the outcome of every game. You could be getting dominated but get a hammer and kill everyone. I thought this was a very cool addition to the game, because it made the outcome hard to predict, which is my favorite part to any multiplayer game.
