Hmm...I kind of changed my mind since the last post. I tried being slightly rude and I got kicked out almost right away. For this time, I tried not saying anything the entire time. Instead, I found out that if you moved close enough to either of the characters, the cursor would change into one of three others. The others included the options to hug, comfort, or kiss the character in front of you. So, I changed my strategy slightly once again to see what the characters would do if I didn't say a word the entire time but I would hug, comfort, or kiss them depending on the situation and the previous comments and would pick up random objects in the room. Needless to say I got a lot of interesting comments. Once Trip said after I 'comforted' Grace twice in a row "Jesus...! Look I'm going to leave you two alone to keep praising each other. Excuse me." and left to go to the kitchen. Another time he said "Jess, would you quit it with that already, it's making me ill!" and I attempted to comfort Trip after that comment and then Grace said "Oh, well... you seem to remember how much Trip likes getting attention." Then once I kissed Trip once as he was trying to make drinks, I got a lot of nervous laughter from the two characters...it was almost like the spontaneous action completely stumped the two of them. I was eventually kicked out after about 15 minutes of silent hugging, comforting, kissing, and random object interaction...

As I mentioned in my last post, this time around I decided to act like Trip and I once had an affair. This included subtlely flirting with Trip, agreeing with him on everything, putting Grace down every chance I got, and hinting about 'past times' with Trip. However, most of what I did and said went totally ignored by the two of them. I did notice that near the end of the game when they're going back and forth about "Let's talk about Grace" and "Let's talk about you, Trip", etc, they ignored everything that I said. Nothing that I said, unless it was in response to a question they asked me, was acknoledged. For example, looking back at the log, I typed in something along the lines of "I love you Trip, marry me!" a grand total of 9 times and not once did such a bold statement interrupt their conversations. This made the game seem a little unrealistic to me because that would get quite an exclamation out of any normal married person. I still ended up having Trip leave Grace, however, this time it was because he supposedly had an affair with a client in Barcelona...and here I was trying to make Grace think I had an affair with Trip. Hmm, I'm not sure what I'll do for the next time...maybe I'll be slightly, but not downright, rude.

Apparently my last post didn't show up, so I'm trying this again. I was really interested in playing this game because I actually met Michael Mateas at an orientation at GT. I thought the game would be really cool because the characters are supposed to be able to understand whatever you typed in and would respond accordingly. I started out the game with the idea of trying to get the couple in the game back together. It was a lot harder than I realized because almost everything I said was misconstrued. For example, Grace asked if I thought the wedding picture on the wall did not fit in with her decorating. Trying to answer with the affirmative to everything(to hopefully appease everyone), I answered that I thought it looked fine. I then typed in that the picture is beautiful. This was totally misunderstood by Grace...she sarcastically said "Ah it's good to see you two getting along so well" and stormed off to the kitchen. As keeping with my 'stay on everyone's good side' idea, I went after her and asked if I had said anything wrong. She then asked "Is this why you came in here, to tell me this?" which I didn't think fit into the context. Eventually, (I'm really not sure how it happened...) Trip said that I made him understand a lot of things and that the relationship wouldn't work so he left. Mission "Get the couple back together" - failure. Next time, I think I'll act like I had an affair with Trip and see what happens because I did just the opposite today and Grace still thought I was flirting with him. Oh well.
