I played my final session of San Andreas today. I realize that this is a violent game and other might think the same. But the violence, guns, and missions are essential to CJ’s survival and to your success as a player. As a player, we must complete the mission at hand, whether it is spray painting another gang’s graffiti or shooting someone in order to keep CJ alive. Just because I play this game, or others play this game, it does not mean that I’m a violent person. We are only completing the missions in order to advance forward in the game. Overall, I liked playing San Andreas. It is violently entertaining and I’m amazed at the complexity of this game.

I don't have a memory card so I had to start from the beginning for my 2nd session. I tried looking for things that I missed when playing the first time. I really didn't catch anything different though. The main themes of violence, struggle, and fighting for survival was just as prevalent in the second session as in the first.
From reading some of the other entries, I notice that some people were going around and exploring and raising hell in the game, not necessarily completing the missions. Maybe I’ll try that next time. I concentrated on completing the first few missions again this session. I did notice something in particular though from watching CJ’s interactions with some of the other characters in the game. From the first few missions, it seemed that CJ wanted to prove himself to his friends by being tough or hard. That may be the reason that he goes with them into rival gang’s territory and helps them spray paint over other gang’s graffiti. Also, when you first complete the first few missions, you earn respect and some cash. By completing those missions, it shows that CJ is down and ready to roll with his boys.

I had never played San Andreas before, though I've played some of the other GTA games. I expected and got a lot of guns, drive-by's, good music, loose women, foul language, and of course, interesting gameplay. The opening story for CJ was interesting and kept my attention. He was going back to San Andreas after being away for a long time. After arriving in San Andreas, he was immediately engulfed back into the kill or be killed lifestyle that he seemed to have left behind.
After being robbed and left in another gang's territory by two crooked cops, players first learn to ride a bike. I rode the bike to CJ's old hood where I was introduced to character's that are important to CJ and the gameplay. I learned that he was in San Andreas for his mother's funeral and that many of his former homies were dead. CJ seems to be a good guy but finds himself surrounded by gangs and killers. The first few missions teach you how to navigate through the game, ride a bike, and drive. You also earn respect and cash in the first few missions. I was taken to get a haircut and I chose the jheri curl because I personally can't have one in real life. I don't like that you have to stay fit by not eating too much and working out. I think this takes away from the focus of completing the missions and staying alive because it is one more thing a player must worry about.
San Andreas reminds me of the movie "Boyz in the Hood" and "Menace to Society." The game and these movies have some similarities in the story, look, and feel. The main characters want to make good decisions but their surroundings keep them in bad situations. Also, the game has an authentic sense of early 1990's Los Angeles gangland.
