Entry 3
I still can’t figure out how exactly to read the map and it’s getting frustrating. I really want to try and see if I can get to a higher level so I am going to be serious this time without purposely killing people (unless I have to in order to stay alive), and without doing anything to attract the cops. I didn’t steel a car, and instead walked home but I got scared every time I saw a black man wearing a bandana because usually they start shooting at me. This made me think about people who play this game all the time, and whether or not they have ever started reacting like I did to the black men in the game to people that look similar in reality. The language is another thing that was shocking to hear for a video game. The words “bitch”, “punto”, “shit”, “fuck”, “asshole” are used so often by the characters, and can affect the players vocabulary usage of those words. It’s possible that if people hear things over and over they will start saying the same things too. I also noticed how some of the black characters are either smoking or holding 40’s of beer as they are walking on the street. When I was walking I found steel knuckles under a bridge and decided to go punch a random person who ended up having a knife so when I killed them I got a weapon in return. The killing was so gory though and the blood kept gushing out all over the street. Even though the blood didn’t look real at all it was still a very vivid killing. I also noticed that when I do start a fight with a random person nobody else does anything to stop it except for the cops. You can get away with anything in this game as long as the cops aren’t there. I honestly don’t get the point of this game, even though there is a story line where the player (a.k.a me) is supposed to clean the streets it doesn’t seem too easy. I think there is too much violence, racial slurs, and bad stereotypes that are pointed out in the game. I don’t think this will be one of my top picks next time I decide to play a video game.

Entry 2
We discussed the pros and cons of video games in class and the only two pros that I can think of for this game are: the fact that it helps stimulate the brain, and the fact that it does help release stress. I had a long weekend and a long day at work, and I thought that playing the game would be a perfect way to let some steam off, and it did work. When I started playing the game for my second time, I started outside and had to go home again since I didn’t reach the second level so I went onto the street and decided to steal a car from a man at a stoplight. Since I didn’t have a weapon, I opened the door, punched him, and threw him out. As funny as this was it just proved to me how horrible of an influence this game can be to younger children because it gives them ideas to do the same kind of evil things. I was still getting use to driving so I drove around not paying attention to the map and ended up on the train tracks and decided to continue driving there until a train almost hit me. I then drove my car into the walkways that cross over the streets, which took quite a bit of time since my car barely fit. I couldn’t stop laughing at this point, because all I could think of was how I would never get away with such things if I did them in real life. I noticed that my driving skills were getting better since I didn’t kill as many people this time around, but I still had a lot to work on. When I was driving through a neighborhood I noticed how so many of the women in the video game wear hardly any clothing. I know most of them are prostitutes in the game but it’s upsetting that most females are designed to be scandalous and promiscuous in this game. It’s wrong. Not only does the video game portray woman in a bad way, but also I noticed how there are also racial issues in the game. Most of the black characters talked like “gangsters” and wore sluggish clothing. The Mexicans that I ran into were most of the time dressed a little better than the black men, but covered in tattoos. Whenever I ran into anybody that started shooting at me or causing trouble they were always black. It just seems like there are a lot of stereotypes in the game, which is another con. My game was ended when I beat my car up so badly that it blew up, but when I jumped out of the car before it blew up a cop started shooting at me and I failed my mission.

Entry One
Today is my first time playing Grand Theft Auto, San Andreas. So far the story is Carl(me) has come back to L.A. because my mother has passed away, but when I'm on my way home I get pulled over by some dirty cops who steal my money and try to frame me for killing a cop. When it was finally time for me to play the game I had no idea what to do, but I got on a bike that was laying on the side of the street and started driving home, and I knew how to get there because there was a little map at the bottom left corner showing me where to go. There are blue arrows over certain people which I am assuming means they are my friends because when I get near them they start talking to me. I decided to get off the bike and punch a random person on the street. It was quite hilarious! Then I saw a cop and punched him too but I wasn't expecting to get in trouble for it. Obviously I was wrong because he started chasing me with a knight stick and the a police car also started chasing me but I couldn't run fast enough. That is when I pressed menu to get familiar with the controls. I order to run from the police I stole one car but I had no idea how to drive it so I hit everybody on the streets and went from lane to lane crashing into every car until my car decided to blow up, this is where i got out and stole another car which belonged to a gangster who began shooting at me. This game is very entertaining so far, especially when the different types of music come on for each car that I steal. I was having a bad day earlier but now that I have started playing this game I feel like stress has been released. Wow, maybe these games are stress relievers. After twenty minutes I found a nice prostitute and my home! I can't believe how much profanity, racial slurrs, and violence that exists in this video game. When I met up with "my boys" at the funeral we got shot at and took some bikes to run from the gangsters but I died. I'm not to good at this game but it sure is entertaining.
