From an outside stand point, not being black or coming from California, I think the game is beyond offensive and makes assumptions about the player’s morality even in the beginning of the game. The game grants the illusion of choice, but in reality if there was such a thing as choice in this game, I would have never stolen the bicycle in the very beginning or gone the places I was told to go in order to progress through the game’s story line.
Cops in the game are portrayed as corrupt and evil. Every single one of the characters is vulgar and everything about this game is so controversial that it is nearly impossible to talk about ethics without detailing every single aspect of the game and the choices that the developers made of their portrayal of African Americans, crime, etc.
The only ability that you are given right off the bat is run, jump, punch and to steal a car. Violence is ingrain in every single aspect of this game.
