Fable 2 is a role-playing game where all your actions have an effect on you and your surroundings. Fable has an action element with real-time fighting with a melee and ranged weapon as well as magic. You play as a Hero to avenge the murder of your older sister. Every choice has an outcome. You kill your enemies with melee attacks and you will get more experience orbs for upgrading your melee skills. You eat food high in fat, you become fatter and less attractive. You kill innocents on the roads or other towns, stories of your evil ways will travel and more people will fear you. Fable does a great job with an ever-changing environment. Your goal is to kill Lord Lucien, but along the way you run into lesser evils that must be taken care of to reach your ultimate goal. You can either help the world or scourge it. Every player could have a different path to reach their final destination. To me Fable 2 was a great extension to the Fable series. At first I thought it was acting more as an expansion pack for the first. I wasn’t sure with how much more it was offering and found many things they took out that hinted that it was a smaller project and might be a much shorter game. One of the deductions that stood out the most was the removal of armor. There was no longer an armor defense and the only things your clothing changed was your appearance to other such as being more attractive, evil, or cross-dressing. But as I continued I found many things to be thankful for such as acquiring skills and the simple, yet fun fight system. I soon found many small details that made a good impact on the game experience. Several of them surprised me with how in-depth they were, such as the real estate market. You are able to buy any of the houses, kiosks or shops in the game with the choice of living in them or renting them out. Houses will be more expensive or you get better rent payment if the economy for a town is good. The economy may suffer due to crime in the area that you may have a big part in, and the economy might be better if you spend more gold in the town at markets and rid the area of crime. When buying from merchants many elements determine the final price of the product you wish to buy. They may mark up the price depending on how much they hate you, or they may mark it down depending on how much they love and/or fear you. These small elements were a great deal of fun to work with. I thought near the beginning of the game there were too few side quests to level up your character, but that was also nice so that you couldn’t get too advanced against your enemies right off the bat. But what I liked that is unlike more games you began to enjoy the game much more and kept getting sucked in as you played, instead of getting bored. I have spent much time working on all elements of the game and have enjoyed all of them. At the beginning of the storyline there was not much emotional attachment to your main character due to no personal dialogue. But as the story continued you grasped the idea of how much his adventure meant to him and while it isn’t a very attached feeling there is at least a notion that you care for his story. I believe a lot more could have been done to create a story that was gripping since that is one thing many RPG’s rely heavily on, but Fable 2 was still as success because of its gameplay. The fighting system is quite simple. X is used for melee attack, Y for ranged, and B for magic. While it is quite simple it is still fun as you progress through the game. Soon you can do pretty flourishes to get past blocking enemies and time your attacks for quick chain strikes. Your ranged attack can eventually target specific body parts for decisive attacks. And a plethora of magic spells to switch up your strategy such as slowing down time, confusing your enemy or throwing a tornado at them. The game was had a variety of quests, not as many as the first Fable, but definitely enough to keep the player busy with few times where the only fun thing to do is continue the main story. With so many unique things to do such as start a family, rule the real-estate market, terrorize towns, and mess with the villagers you really get a fun experience you don’t get from many other games. While I was unable to try the online part of the game due to not having Xbox Live Gold I am sure it sounds like a good time to have with a partner. Joining in and fighting together in an RPG is always awesome to do since it is fairly new in games. I believe one person is the Hero and someone joins there world to help them so it is more advantageous for one player and might cause some trouble. But to me it sounds like the online gameplay would be fun for at least a while. I was really pleased with Fable 2 and when away from the game I really did want to get back and play more than most games. Definitely a game I would recommend.
