I live in a neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, a lot of the scenes that are present in GTA- San Andreas mirror things that happen in my neighborhood. Last week there was a police chase that could have easily been something that happened on the video game. There were so many police cars after a single car and the police had been following the car full of young guys for some time. The car crashed into a home across the street from where we live, and all the police cars surrounded the car. The individuals were arrested but I had never seen so many police officers at one time. That scene reminded me of all those times police cars chased CJ on GTA - San Andreas. It is crazy how close the game is able to portray these events, but I do find it offensive for those individuals who have to live in this type of environment to have a video game mock what they go through everyday.

As I continue playing the game it has continue to strike me how heavy the game relies on stereotypes and issues of racism. The characters in the video game are portrayed in stereotypical manners and those characters of color especially are portrayed under a negative light. I feel that games like this one are making profit off of stereotypes and violence. Although this game is supposed to be for entertainment purpose, I do believe that we are guilty for not stopping the production and consumption of violent products like this one. It is one thing to show the reality of violence and another to glorify the effects of violence. I feel that GTA-San Andreas glorifies the effects of violence to a point were it seems normal and even fun to kill people, rob and steal.

I think after playing the game for a few weeks now, the violence is not as bad as the first time I played the game. The language is pretty intense at times, but I do think that the creators tried hard to make it seem like it was an urban setting. This time was also one of the longest period I played for and after a while it become normal to fight off people, steal, and kill others.

Since this is probably one of the first vide games I play since Mario Bros, I find it really cool how the character is able to move and jump almost like a real person. Also when the person begins bleeding, it definitely looks like something you will see in real life. As for the violence, I don't like how it is used for entertainment purposes, instead of promoting awareness or trying to stop the violence it is glorified in this game. It was also the first time I died, and it was not what I was expecting. Towards the end the more I fought of or the "better" I got at the game the more I was being attacked. Until finally I died, I was surrounded by cops.

I have never been one to play video games, but I do remember that at one point I did try to play GTA-San Andreas. I have two younger brothers that used to spend hours playing this game, after hearing all the controversy with the game my mom no longer wanted them to play this game. At first I did not know how to play the game, so I would walk around but within the first 30 seconds someone was hit by a car. There was shootings and lots of cursing. There were also women walking around in skimpy outfits and the language was very derogative. I also thought it was interesting to how within the game there were short movie clips in which characters would interact with CJ the main guy and they would speak of crimes they were going to commit or things they wanted to do. The setting seemed very realistic and there was heavy detail that made it seem like you were actually there. I tried to fight someone and when i finally killed the person blood spilled in a very realistic manner. The gun shoots also sounded fairly realistic and the music played a heavy role in the scene playout.

In this second time I played the game I tried to be more interactive, in order to win I had to continue to kill and steal cars and money. I did feel that the game played off a lot on stereotypes the gang bangers were dressed in clothes that stereotypically shown on movies for gang bangers to wear. When I got a fight into one of them the curse words kept being said. Since I had begun to fight others, I started fighting and cars tried to run over me. There was also a several shootings from car to cars, when these would happen people would scream and run. CJ was able to anything he wanted, if he wanted to get a car all he had to do was hurt the person who was driving. He constantly moved from getting one car to another. The same went with money he would get the money by hurting others. Whenever he wanted anything or need anything he would fight to get it. I did think it was strange that for the most part when there was a person of color involved.
