Dominoes is also available to play on the computer. You are able to play against other people so the social interaction is still present. If you don't want to play against another person, you can play against the computer. Playing against other people brings back the competitive factor. There is more of a reward structure online (Yahoo.com) because you get a rating and that rating increases and decreases according to how much you win or lose. That gives me an incentive to play more so I can get a higher rating.
There is nothing that I would change about the game of dominoes. I have yet to get frustrated to the point that I would stop playing. Like I said before, luck is involved and sometimes you get lucky and pull a good hand. Dominoes is a game that someone can catch on to quickly. It's simple enough that it can be learned in no time but not so simple that it gets boring.

The non-platform game I chose to play was dominoes. Dominoes is a game in which players have to rid their hands of every domino piece before the other players while trying to score as many points as possible. The game of dominoes is played with 2 to 4 players. A set contains 28 pieces and each player pulls 7 pieces. When 2 to 3 people play, the remaining pieces are called the boneyard and when you aren't able to play, you must pull a domino from the boneyard.
Dominoes does have a basic set of rules, but those rules can be altered amongst different households and even ethnic groups. For instance, the dominoes are normally put down and arranged by the same number but when playing with colored dots, some may put them down according to color instead, which in my opinion is not an efficient way of playing and can be confusing. Also, the scoring system varies according to where you play and also among different ethnic groups.
The game of dominoes is a strategic game and luck is also a factor. It can become very competitive. Each player is out for himself and tries to win the game by blocking the opponents' chances of scoring points. The game keeps the player/players interested because of the competitive component that it creates. Everyone wants to be the person to domino. When that happens, you get points from the dominoes left in your opponents' hands.
I enjoy playing dominoes because it creates a social setting. While playing, we engage in "trash-talking" to get ourselves pumped up and to create a more exciting environment while playing. This also creates a flow of the game and enables me and the other players to play numerous games in one setting and not get bored. Bystanders also get engaged in the game when it starts to get rowdy with hopes of playing next.
