    Trey's Poker (Other)

    [March 7, 2010 01:41:17 PM]
I played my second session today and as I was playing I was trying to focus on the strategy aspect of the game. The biggest strategy aspect of Poker is to use what is called the "Poker Face". Poker Face is a generic term for hiding one's emotions while playing Poker. For instance, if you have a bad hand, you don't want everyone to know that you have a bad hand so you try to not let the disappointed look show up on your face. Also if you have a good hand, you want to keep your face from looking glad. So you really want to just keep your face at a neutral emotion basically. Once again, this adds to the nervousness aspect as you know other's will be staring at you trying to read your face so they can figure out what move to make. The usual goal of Poker is to win the hand so you can win the amount of money that everyone throws in for that hand. This definitely adds to the feel of the game as you are losing something very precious to you if you don't play well. Poker can be used as an actual way to make a living or just to pass the time. Poker is also used as a time of bonding between friends as you do not always have to play for stakes.

The objective in poker is to take five cards and make a certain combination with the cards. The person who has the highest combination is the winner for that round. There are many variations of poker.I played my first session of Poker and the feeling is definitely different than playing on a console. The major difference is the fact that you have to see and hear your opponents. On a console game, the most you'll ever do is hear the opponents through the microphone if that. On the other hand, in Poker, one has to look at the actions and reactions of other players and that puts a whole new perspective on the game. The feeling of nervousness comes to play as it is now your turn and all eyes are on you and your opponents are anxiously awaiting your next move so they can counter. I have played Poker on a console before and it is no where near as stressful as it is playing in person. Also depending on what you're playing for, many strategies will come into play which I will talk about in my next session. This game does have a cultural aspect as it is a game of luck and as I have learned in class, luck has been a part of many cultures all over the world.
