I played the first 30 minutes of GTA San Andreas for the first time ever tonight. I had heard a lot of great things about this game but never played it because I knew the content was pretty bad.
My first impression of this game was the way it made me feel "dirty" for a lack of better words. I felt like I was playing in the slums of the city, and this is something I have never really experienced before. I think the reason that this turned me off is due to me spending most of my life in Rural South Dakota and never really having any inner city experiences at all. This just left me in a state of culture shock.
I also felt that the language was intolerable in the game. I heard words used in this game that I would not even let my wife hear me use and this made me feel filthy and worried for the younger people playing this game. I was worried about this due to the influential nature that games inherently have and the impact that this will have on that generation.
Now I am not completely closed minded to content that shows the not so great aspects of life, but I felt that this first 30 minutes in the game was just a huge turn off for me. Completing the missions was fun, but I couldn't stand the cut scenes and found myself clicking through them as fast as possible so I did not have to listen to them much.
