I decided to actually play the game this time and try to earn money and win respect with my gang. Doing so, there were so many ethical values I violate to get ahead.
~I decided to drive around the city and see what I would get into. To do so, I had to beat a women and pull her out the car to steal the vehicle.
~While I was driving I had to drive through lights and hit other cars out the way to get to where I needed to go. Completely not obeying any traffic rules.
~When I was low on money, I had to beat a man to death and steal his money.
As I was playing I started to notice that I did these unjust acts with ease. I started to say, 'oh, I need twenty dollars for food. Let me go beat this hooker and take her money.' These are things I shouldn't be saying as means to surviving, but then again I blame the creators of GTA of the stereotypical situations my character had to face to survive. I started to really get into the game by killing people in broad day light for money, killing cops so I can take their gun and spray painting rival gangs graffiti right in front of them. I even thought 'fuck the police' as they chased me while I was listening to N.W.A. I see why now my mother would never let my brother play games like this. She was disgusted I even had to play it lol. It is very entertaining which I think is the reason why this game might fuel teenagers and children to do violent acts.
I also noticed the gender roles in this game. Of course it over sexualized the women and made them all prostitutes that you could have sex with at night in the back of your car. The men are either gang member or police. Very segregated when gender is looked at in this game.
Aristotle might look at this game in a different light. CJ clearly does not have what everyone else has, therefore there is not a balance in society and someone needs to give up what they have. We live in a capitalistic society so making money is how we survive. CJ faced with so many obstacles resorts to violence to correct this imbalance. He steal and kills just to have a little of what the wealthy people have walking around. His actions would be justified then if he was trying to take from those who had to much and provide for his family and himself which didn't have enough.
