Having played Gangs of London more after the review, I realize that while the game is repetitive it remains fun in short bursts. In my opinion, the short mission structure is intended to create a truly mobile experience. The intention of most portable systems and games is to create something that is enjoyable on the go, and Gangs of London fits this ideal mobile game experience well. While it is simple and somewhat short, it is not lacking in story and fun. As I said in my previous entry, it is not worth buying a PSP console for, but it is worth buying if you are looking to have fun on the move or just in your home.

Having just bought a PSP, I am new to the games available for the system. After looking at what games I thought would be interesting, I chose Gangs of London as one of the games to purchase when I got the system. Gangs of London is a game that attempts to be somewhat like Grand Theft Auto, but is less about freedom than having simple mission based game play. Missions vary from driving to a destination, losing tails, defending areas, shooting enemy gangs, sneaking through buildings, and disabling and then stealing vehicles. The ultimate goal of the game is to take over London with the gang of your choice. Speaking of which, there are six gangs within the game the player can play as. The story revolves around your gang’s rise to the top and is told through graphic novel 2D storyboards. The game controls fairly well with a few instances aside where I found it difficult to manipulate the camera and fire on the correct enemy. Gangs of London’s replay value may seem as though it would be high considering that there are six gangs to choose from, but having beaten the game and then played a few levels with a different gang I know that every mission is the same with a different gang as the protagonist. There are several mini games in a menu called THE PUB, most of which are fun if not occasionally challenging. These include darts, skittles, UK Pool, and US Pool There is also an almost pointless free roam mode where you can drive around the city and involve yourself in various scenarios. Overall it is a decent game that can be fun as well as repetitive. I suggest Gangs of London if you already have a PSP, but it certainly isn't a reason to go out and buy one.
