Finished playing Batman the other day. It was much more than I had anticipated!
First of all I like to mention the characters and the voice actors. I am very happy they based the characters off of the comics and the animated series. I feel if they had portrayed the recent movies, it would have been very lackluster, and limited the developer's creativeness. I noticed that they used the original voice actors from the animated series for Batman, Harley Quinn, and the Joker. In my opinion Mark Hamill (aka Luke Skywalker) does the best Joker voice acting ever. It really made the game for me.
The combat was well done in my opinion. It was easy to learn and use, but it was hard to master. It was very entertaining to see Chris Redfield Batman (as I like to refer to him as due to his similar steroid physique) annihilated enemies.
The game had a very dark atheistic, which I think was done perfectly, but since it was done on the unreal engine you should expect it to look similar in those aspects. I actually heard from my roommate that the developers were upset, because they found out that a lot of people played the game with detective mode on (created a filter over the game). I was guilty of this, not because I liked it better, but it shows you where enemies and Riddler clues were.
I have two complaints about batman: 1) Why is Batman the only one with crappy dialogue? It is not like his voice actor can't perform, since I know what he is capable of from watching the animated series. It is not a case that they couldn't write good dialogue, for every enemy had good dialogue. So what is the deal!?!
2) Boss battles... They were the less fun than normal fighting, which is a big no no to me. I was looking forward to fighting Killer Croc the entire game, pondering on what the developers had in store for me. In reality what I had to do was walk in one direction, occasionally run, and occasionally push the right trigger. The Ivy fight was just some rinse and repeat battle, which I hate. The final boss battle seemed rushed, and not in essence with the game. In my opinion, the boss battles could just be taken out completely.
Overall, I loved this game with a passion. Being a batman nerd, I enjoyed the nostalgia when old villains made cameos and such. I am looking forward to the second one. Let us pray it doesn't turn into a Spiderman musical or something.
