It took a while but I eventually finished it. Woot for me!
Perhaps the most surprising thing is that the game kept being interesting and nail-bitingly hard (in a good way) up until the end. I did notice that I was getting better since I was able to use better cars (and drive them better) as I had to go back to earlier races to get points to help me unlock the later ones.
The ending was a bit sad though, because it's a "cliff hanger" of sorts. The sad part is that I know that Black Rock Studios (the developers) were basically shut down shortly after the game came out. So, as far as I know, there won't be a sequel. Boo!
I've since handed the game off to someone else who might appreciate it. My take on it is that if you enjoyed Burnout, you'll like this one.

I slid this into my PS3 only because I was having trouble loading my Uncharted 2 game (which, strangely enough, worked fine a few days later). Seems like an inauspicious way to start a GameLog... and WOW!
So far, I've clear 4 episodes (each has 5-6 races/events) and I'm really enjoying the gameplay AND, perhaps more importantly, what the fictional context of the game adds to the experience. In a nutshell, the game is Burnout + game show. So, you race cars dangerously, try to take out opponents (indirectly, in this case, by triggering track-side events), and move very fast. The premise is that you are a racer in a reality-TV-like show that highlights the over-the-top things that happen while you race. Buildings blow up, bridges collapse, giant planes (almost) land on you. That sort of thing. Very Michael Bay-ish. The good news is that it works...and I've really enjoyed playing the game so far.
For my level of expertise, the difficulty seems spot on. I can occasionally win a few races, but generally make it in the top 3. If I play a particular event a few times (2-3), then I can make it first or second. So, it's somewhat of an effort, but it all seems accessible and, most importantly, there are no easy victories. I tried going back to an earlier event (to use a much better car) figuring it would be a cake walk, and no. Just as hard... (I wonder if the race difficulty is auto-adjusted to the car you drive?)
