Day 1
As I watched the cut scenes in the beginning of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas I realized how offensive and stereotypical the game is. From the moment the main character, CJ, is introduced I knew the game will be explicitly violent and crude. CJ and his friends are portrayed as the typical African-Americans thugs. These stereotypical characters sag there pants, carry guns, wear white tank tops with gold chains around their necks. I had an issue with these character flaws, which distracted me from the game and its’ story. As I began playing I was surprised how complex the game is. The player is given the freedom of controlling CJ’s every movement and decision. I was able to control CJ ride a bike, run, eat, get a haircut, punch people, and more. I found the game very entertaining once I got used to the controls. I accomplished some missions and got killed many times in the process. Overall my first impression of the game is mixed. There were some positive elements such as the overall ability to control the character and the freedom the player has. There were some negative features I am not fond of such as the language and violence as well as the stereotypes.
