For my first Gamelog entry I’ve decided to write about the Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. So far my first impressions of the game were well met. The gameplay was intuitive utilizing the Wii motion plus to do some very unique things that cannot be found in any other game, even simple things like attacking with a sword makes the gameplay in this game so unique compared to other games.
Funny thing though it seems as though that Skyward Sword’s strongest elements can actually at the same time be some of its worst. There are times where I can see that gamers could get frustrated with the Wii motion plus control scheme since this can cause quite a bit of frustration for those that just want to hack and slash their way through the game, and may be turned off by this since in previous games of the series you could do this with relative ease.
What I do praise most for the game so far is that each level has the player doing some kind of different gameplay style. For example once the player has acquired the whip for the most part of the level the player will use the whip to solve various puzzles and defeat various enemies in different ways they didn’t before.
The game is also very rewarding, even though that some of the rewards given after finishing a long quest is just more things needed in order to complete in even bigger quest , the game still praises you appropriately with a fantastic story and awesome cinematic.
So far the game has not frustrated me in the least, and has still wanted me to keep playing to discover what happens in the story. I will provide an overall review and more background in my next log.
