I’ve recently played Soul Calibur 5. It is an amazing game as the series has become very popular with me in my gaming adventures. The game’s environment and fighting design is graphically impressive and smooth with each character that is more outlandish than the last. There are returning characters that I enjoy such as Tira, Raphael and Nightmare, along with new entry characters such as, Dampierre, Xiba, Natsu and Ubisoft’s Ezio Auditore (Assassin’s Creed). Each character within the game has their own play style of fighting moves and combinations. The buttons are responsive and fluid it’s just a matter of not messing up when I’m putting in the commands. There are plenty of commands for each character, whether its vertical/horizontal attacks that makes him/her unique when in play. There are some commands that are easy or difficult when I’m using the D-pad, it’s just a matter of practicing. Each character is very well designed and detailed to the clothing, facial features, voices, weaponry and fighting style. Although the one liner in the game after you win a fight are in my opinion a little cheesy. The story was somewhat enjoyable just because it involved scrolls with different stand still pictures and dialogue, rather than showing more of the CGI of the characters, just to get me more involved within the story progression.
Although, I do enjoy involving myself in the customization option’s of the game to create my own character. The customization is very in depth as I can pick any fighting style of any character (with the exception of Ezio and Algol) and pick between numerous possibilities, ranging from facial features, voices, body type, clothing, and weapons, to altering the colors and patterns. In addition to this and newly available DLC the customization just gets better to more open possibilities.
Yet, to say in my opinion this is a very good game that besides the progression of the story is vibrant with a new coat of paint and will stay within my collection.
