StarCraft, Conclusion
I learned several things from these brief sessions.
The game is genuinely engaging. There is a simple, basic thrill of commanding armies of units to victory or death.
Gameplay is smooth and dynamic. However, much of the freedom is lost in single-player mode... The first campaign levels leave little up to the player's creativity, by following a linear story-line. Also, much of the experience is lost when you have to play the same mission over and over.
The story and mission objectives are not narrated effectively. I often found myself skipping over this part.
Overall, StarCraft is a solid RTS, but the campaigns are nothing special.

StarCraft, Terran Session
The first level of the Terran campaign was more fun in my opinion. Again, out of habit, I clicked right through all of the introductory screens. But this time I was initially immersed in much more dynamic gameplay. I was provided with buildings and worker units, in addition to some combat ones. For several minutes, I simply sat back, building up my forces. When I felt I had a substantial army, I went exploring. After losing most of my army, I stumbled on to an allied (rescuable) base. It was then explained that the objective was to infiltrate the enemy base from behind. However, I wanted to see what would happen if I attacked the base head on. So I spent nearly 10 minutes pumping out Marine units, until I had several groups of infantry. I sent them all in, and failed miserably. The infantry were decimated by mines, and my hero unit was killed in the battle.

StarCraft, Zerg Session
The first thing I got when I started the campaign was a screen full of text. This was a bit of a turn-off, because I wasn't playing the game to read. It looked like a backstory, so I blindly clicked through it. I was pleased when I next came to the mission screen. It was more to the point. This time I got a virtual character reading the objective to me! However, it was going way too slow, and I couldn't resist the glow of the green start button, so I skipped it.
The first level of the Zerg campaign was a disaster. I quickly discovered that the objective was to rescue some Hive buildings, using the small army of units that I was provided. However, I never took the time to learn what my units' abilities were. I was able to save the first few hives using the attack command alone, however I kept getting stuck on the last hive. I quickly got frustrated with the level, because every time I would lose, I was sent back to the start. During each attempt, it would take at least 5 minutes to repeat the part of the mission that I already knew how to do. This was repetitive and irritating, so I impatiently moved on to the Terran campaign instead.

StarCraft, Introduction
I'm a newbie when it comes to StarCraft. I borrowed a friend's CD a few months ago, but have not tried any campaigns yet. My experience is limited to some LAN games that I have played with my housemates. So, going in to these sessions I only had basic skills. Since the only race I know how to play is Protoss, I decided to try Terran and Zerg for the first time. I figured this would give me a nice clean, unbiased look at the game's dynamics.
Because I have never played these races before, I started out in single-player mode (I would have gotten slaughtered otherwise). After selecting my player alias, I had to choose between clicking on this stiff-looking Terran guy, or a sexy green Zerg creature. Naturally, I fired up the Zerg campaign first.
