I have been playing Doom classic on iOS for two days. This is a remake of the original doom, which came out in 1993 and was first released on DOS. If you are just beginning to play first-person shooter games, this is the game to get. It was one of the first 3d shooting games that ever came out. John Romero, designer of Doom, has said "There was never a name for the DOOM marine because it's supposed to be YOU." I feel more involved in the game since the character is not named. Although the graphics, gameplay, and the music were primitive, it was still a great game to play. The graphics are still as good as the PC version. Listening to the music in the game made me reminisce to the 1990’s. What throws me of is this satanic theme, which involves demonic monsters, pits of toxic slime, and ceilings that lower and crush the player. These elements remind me of hell and I feel like I am in a dark world while playing this game. Then, I was researching this game on the internet and I find out that the satanic elements and extreme violence portrayed in the game contributed to heavy controversy. Religious organizations have criticized it for demonic imagery. Many critics have seen this as a mass murder simulator. I heard that this game was blamed for the Columbine High School shootings since Eric and Dylan were avid players. Then, I found out that Eric had designed doom levels that represent an environment like the high school. The gameplay was great, except that I could not access a map or jump. Without a map, I would not know where to go to find more monsters and enemies to kill or find an exit after to finish the mission. Touch controls were relatively easy to use except that when I walk on bridges and cliffs, I have the danger of falling down easily. I fall down to a toxic, slimy pool and simply stay stuck there until my health reaches 0%. But everything else is fine as well as I play at a not-so-difficult level.
