Yay, it was short!
Finished this a few weeks ago, so my memory of the ending bits is probably not to be trusted too far. However, I thought it was an interesting experiment of a game: Pokemon meets tactics games.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, once you finish the game you unlock a special mode that lets you play new "scenarios" from the perspectives of (pretty much all?) the characters you may have encountered that joined you (I think?) along the way. There's a lot of them, so it looked like a serious time sink...on the other hand, the "scenarios" seemed different and I think they even had different difficulty levels. I thought it was a neat way to add legs to a game, while also letting some people "bow out". So, I can still hold my head high and say I finished the game (like that really matters), but I could continue playing and having new experiences with it for a much longer period of time.
From the FAQ (http://www.gamefaqs.com/ds/654723-pokemon-conquest/faqs/64453) it looks like there are 30+ post-game stories you can follow. This is double what the main campaign has (if you count stories as equaling challenges in the campaign). So, there's some SERIOUS additional content here. Wow. Cool stuff!

The other day I was told that this game was disappointingly short. That was good news for me. Not because this game isn't bad, but because I'm assuming there will be little to no grinding. So far, there's only been some, as I have had to train up a few Pokemon in order to get them ready for a fight. I've never been much of a Pokemon player, so I don't have all of the meta knowledge I assume fans of the series have (e.g. rock pokemon are weak against what?). This means that I've bumbled into a few fights woefully unprepared and had to retreat and lick my wounds as it where. Other than that, I'm enjoying the tactical gameplay. I'm surprised that no one had thought to do something like this before - since it's a little more interesting (ok, a lot more interesting) than the usual Pokemon battles.
So far I've conquered 8 kingdoms or so. Maybe ten? I figure that I'm a little over halfway through with 8 hours of gameplay.
