FunkCracker's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (XBX)

    [October 17, 2003 04:12:21 PM]
Well, I sat down and tried to play this game for the first time. Admittedly, I was under a 30 minute time constraint, so I didn't really get to give the game a full chance, but nonetheless, I really don't think this is the game for me.

I got through most of the training mission, but had to quit before I got through the "move silently" trainer. I did try it several times, to no avail. I started to realize that I really would rather be going Rambo-style, and this was just boring. Perhaps in a real game situation this would be more fun. It's part of what I liked about Counter-Strike -- being all stealthy and stuff.

Part of what was killing me was the controls. The left joystick moves you around as you would in Mario and other 3D game, but the right joystick moves the camera like you would in an FPS. It was not working for me. I kept either moving the camera in the wrong direction, or I would try to make my character strafe like in an FPS.

Needless to say, I'd be surprised if I pick this game up ever again. I'll leave the log open for a while just in case I do.
