I've played all the way to the 4th world and I'm still surprised at how much variety there is in the gameplay. Yes, it's probably similar to what you'd find in a regular Mario game - but that's a good thing. Mario games are generally seen as the gold standard for platforming and it's neat to see another game that follows that path (others, for example, might go down the path of super difficulty).
I've decided to move along to another game partly out of a desire to see something else (i.e. guilt from looking at the stack of unplayed games) and partly because, in a sense, I'm not sure that the main innovation (hook?) is all that appealing to me: Starfy's transformations. I've only seen two so far: the fire-breathing dragon and the weird ice/water missile-like fish. They're neat, but they are only used in levels they were specifically designed for. It doesn't feel like you get to romp through a regular level with super powers at all, which may be a bit of a missed opportunity.

Wow. This game is really "wow" in the sense that there is a lot more here than I initially expected. I was expecting a "traditional" platformer with polished gameplay and cute kid-friendly graphics. There's lots of that, but more gameplay than I expected. And the writin so far is, at times, genuinely funny. It's a tad childish, but hey, I'm not the target audience so that's not really a complaint at all. I'm surprised that this is the only Starfy game that's made it's way to the west (AFAIK).
In terms of gameplay, I guess it's as complex as a typical Mario game with different combinations of special jumps, spins, and attacks. There's also a fair amount of secret areas, bonus levels that unlock after finding and completing secret challenges, and things to find (clothes for Starfy of all things). Interestingly there's a secondary character that I think you can swap out for that has different abilities (like wall jumping). I haven't tried that yet because I got the impression that you're supposed to swap out when you need help - something I haven't needed so far.
I'm currently on the 3rd world (ice something or other) and I don't know how many there are in total. I suspect something like 10 or so?
