I've never really sat down and played - deeply - any of the games in this series. I hope to do so now, even as I am confused by the way the game is structured and organized.
I bought a used copy for very little money and, fortunately or not, it looks like all of the levels and areas have been unlocked. They're only identified by a star icon with no information as to what the "correct" order is. I've been going at it by trial and error.
My first trial was a disaster. I played the first three levels easily enough but the 4th was really hard and I lost. Then I realized that I had lives and that, to get back to that point, I've have to start playing the world from scratch. Sigh.
Second time around went much better. I guess I must have picked an easier/earlier world: cleared everything all the way to the end and learned why bananas matter (10 bananas and you get an extra life). Annoying thing is that beating the world triggers the end-game credits. They're playable, but I'm not looking forward to seeing them over and over again. Assuming I continue to play, of course.
Weirdly I couldn't find how to reset the cart. I'm guessing there's a secret button press combo but at this point I think it might be best for me to explore rather than start from zero.
