I "passed" on this game although I had seen it really cheap because I recalled that the reviews were pretty dismal. A few months ago I saw a copy and actually bothered to read the back of the box. The game seemed like a western-made (Ubisoft) visual novel in the style of lots of Japanese games. So, I was intrigued and picked it up.
So far, it kind of is and isn't a visual novel. It's perhaps closer to an adventure game that seems to emphasize multiple choice situations where you have to pick the right choices. It's structured as a series of chapters, each might have some scenes (with a checkpoint) where you're given a context and a goal. They're all part of a larger story that seems to be unfolding as you make progress and the "game" aspects seem limited to picking the right options in a conversation and using the correct items from your inventory at the right moment. It's not terribly interesting because the characters and story simply don't appeal to me (a bunch of friends are spending a week at a ski resort and want to pick up chicks and score, the women seem interested in finding boyfriends?) I'm not entirely sure to be honest because I've only played a few chapters of "Brett"'s story.
I'm not sure I'll make it all the way to the end, but I am interested to see if the women's stor(ies?) are interwoven with Brett's. My guess is that "yes" because it seems like there's a small cast of characters across the entire game.
I also think my experience is suffering somewhat having just come off a Phoenix Wright game with fun characters and great writing.
