jason tom's Medieval Total War (PC)

    [January 12, 2007 07:01:39 PM]
After playing Medieval Total War for another hour there have been many more interesting turns to the game. As you move up in difficulty you find that teh level of the computer characters doesn't change, what does change is the difficulty in managing your finances and troops. I was given only a few troops and very little territory as the Dutch unlike the French who were given substantial amounts of troops and land. It then became difficult to build troops as all my income was only enough to sustain the troops that i already had which made expanding difficult. When I did take a territory i usually failed to have enough troops in that territory to sustain control. I soon became trapped in my first attempt and had to resign from the game. My next attempt has shown a little improvement, I only know that the level of stratigic moves has grown, and you are allowed almost no room for error or bad moves.

Playing this game was exciting because everytime you play you find yourself having to think of a new stragety to defeat all your opponents. No two games are ever alike which is what makes this game so facinating. The large map that you are required to conqure also makes the game hard but strategical because of the fact that you have to watch all the territories that you control. The downside is that this game is long and it can become frustrating. However the features that come with the game make the long wait worth while.

During the game play you can partake in two seperate battle modes. One allows you to automatically take care of the battle and gives you the results in about two seconds. The other mode allows you to personally control your troops in battle. This mode I have found can either help or hurt your chances for victory, mainly depends how well you can control the troops and your knowledge of commands.

Medieval Total War has been the game that shows you how difficult it is to control a vast kingdom. Not only do you have to command the troops in battle, but once you have control of the land you have to please the people who live there or they may revolt against you. You also have to deal with the finances needed to create troops and build structures. I belive the best part of the game is that you have to balance out your troop placement as territories can revolt if you do not have enough troops in that area. You also have to watch out for random fractions that pop up during game play. These are usually from royal lines that have had their territory taken over.

Currently I have beaten the game as the French which are listed as easy setting. It took me about five hours of play to conquor the world. I am now in the process of playing as the Dutch who have the settings at medium difficulty.
