Played this a bunch on the plane, mostly to get cash to buy unlocks and see what things looked like. I did try a song on the hardest level and, I didn't do well at all would be an understatement. Perhaps mostly because I was surprised at how the "established" gameplay parameters were altered. For example, there are pink strips that require you press two buttons at once. In all the other difficulty levels they're always horizontal - so you must press top left and right, middle left and right, or bottom left and right. In the hardest mode they sometimes come out diagonally!
Overall, glad I played it, was fun, but now it's time to move on. I should play Persona 4 Golden since I have it and I know the characters?

Ok, I've finished the campaign, unlocked all the songs, and have messed around a bit with the variety of options and settings available for customizing the levels. I'm surprised by how much variety there is AND, perhaps more significantly, how it really changes the experience.
For example, one of the options is changing how fast the "notes" come in at. 1 is super slowly, and 7 is the fastest. Now, the song itself is exactly the same, and the notes you have to hit are the same, you just have more/less time to "see them coming". Weirdly, I find that it's much harder to play with slower notes than it is with faster notes. It seems easier to "get into it" with the faster notes for some reason. I'm guessing this might be song/tempo dependent but it was something I wasn't expecting...
I'm also surprised by how a lot of the config options need to be unlocked. In this case you have to buy items that then allow you to use that option in game later on. This is what actually got me to try out some of the options (fortunately!). I'm guessing that this level of customization is part and parcel of the Japanese rhythm game experience - especially as it caters to/allows for much more challenging play.
I'm not sure how much longer I'll play, but for now I'm having fun "farming" the different items and trophies...

Ooh, a music game. It's been a while since I've played one and I thought it would be fun to try out this one. I think the reviews were mediocre, but that's ok - I'm not planning on spending TOO much time with this, I'm mostly curious about whatever mechanics it may have. I'm assuming the music will all be jpop I'm unfamiliar with and not particularly interested in either.
So far?
I've spent more time READING than playing, which was a real surprised. The campaign, is...full on story stuff. Character conversations, drama, mystery..and I think a lot of references to Persona 4 (I think it takes place after Persona 4). Then I played ONE song. The reading to music ratio feels really off here...well, there was a tutorial - about halfway into 25 minutes of reading.
I hope that there's more music/dancing and that all this reading was just for the intro stuff? We'll see....
