I can see why this game made such a big sale. It attracts almost everyone. For poor ghetto neighborhood people, they can somehow relate their real life into the game. The game is probably a more exaggerated version of their life. For middle class and rich suburban people, they are rather intrigued about the ghetto thug lifestyle. We can even see that from the invasion of rap music, bling-blings and baggy pants… etc into the rich suburban area. The game itself is a very rebellious version of real life. When people first started playing the game, it is fun to see how close the game is to real life except you can break any rules from our society in the game. It is rebellious, sexy and violent, the secret of Hollywood’s succession. How can you not make a sell with that? However, things get old in the game. When stealing cars, beat random people to death and run into whatever you want with a Ferrari become normal things to do or more precisely that is all you do, it is not that much fun anymore or at least to me personally.

When I first started playing this game, it was really fun to me. The surrounding in the game is very similar to where we live in. You can do anything you want. It is like you go on the street and do whatever you want. Go to restaurant, get a haircut, get a tattoo, beat random people to death steal cars and drive outrageously…etc However, everything gets old after a while. To a point I was kind of bored of it. The dialogues in the game are long and slow, so usually I just jump straight to the mission. Most missions are fairly easy. You barely get any reward after completing each mission. Most missions contain activities such as stealing a car then drive to a designated place. Even though each mission has its own story behind it, things you actually do are all pretty similar; there is only so much you can do. The satisfactions I get from competing each mission is far less than advance a level in Contra. I think it is because of the lack of rules and difficulties in this game.

It is crazy to see how fast video games have developed in the past two decades. Comparing the games I used to play when I was small to the games kids are playing now, I always wonder how do the kids handle those much more complicated, realistic and graphic games in nowadays. Grand Theft Auto series is one of the most popular games in recent years. It is complicated, realistic and graphic. I remember when I first played this game; I personally get dizzy while I was playing it due to the fast paced graphic action movement. However, it went away after I am used to it. Graphic wise, even though, the game is not as realistic as many other games today maybe like final fantasy, it is good enough. Especially the game portrays every single little detail about what is around, such as buildings, different types of cars and people on the street, and different type of shops and places etc.
