Yesterday I participated in a super smash brothers tournament. Although I had not played in a while the controls are rather simple, a possible downside, and I was quickly up to speed again. Super smash brothers is a platform fighting game, although it is slightly outdated technologically, the gameplay is unbeatable. The game is designed with multiplayer focus. The camera adjusts to keep all four players in the camera view at all time even when they may be at opposite sides of the "stage" or fighting area. I say the gameplay is unbeatable because I found myself intensely lost in the magic circle only able to howl when I was defeated. The pressure of using all your character's abilities to launch the enemies off the stage is overwhelming. At times I broke down in desperation and started button jamming when I was on the verge of being put off the edge by the person right next to me. Sadly, the enthusiasm passes and the nostalgic joy I felt at first vanished in the form of frustration. At a certain point, as in most fighting games, the only true way to increase your skill with a player is to already know all their special moves and combos. But, because this game is truly one of the greatest games ever on the N64 platform, getting to know the moves comes in handy because wherever I have gone I've always found someone still playing this game.

I did not win by the way. Silly little kirby stole my skills and kept dropping on top of me and knocked me out last.

Today I was playing super smash brothers with 3 friends on nitendo 64. In contrast to many other games I play the graphics are pretty retro. When too many things are going on at once the frames per second drop and it gets pretty laggy. Then again its probably just the old N64 thats been droppped too many times. I select Starfox and we are fighting at Fox's ship. Even though it has been a while since I've last played the controls come easily and I am soon working people with the sword. Now I remember why this game is so great. It is all about the gameplay and the competition with this game. We have split up and are fighting 2v2 on opposite side of the map. I'm working my friend who picked Samus because the reflect shield owns shooters. I've already deflected samus's carged shot twice once successfully knocking her off. I love the epic struggle between the characters on the screen because the battle is so intense. Even when your opponent belives you are down and out and falling off there are still possibilities to get back. Because the players are balanced and each have their own strategy the game is never dull and lackluster.
