I was never a fan of the game show, TBH. I'm not a fan of the game either - but I am really curious if there was a moment in time when the owners of the Wipeout IP (futuristic racing game) considered legal action against this game? I guess that's why it's also called "Wipeout: The Game"? I guess the game released and sank without much noise so there was no need to rustle up the lawyers?
You play as a contestant in the game and participate in events from the game show. That's really all there is to it - but the controls are wonky, there isn't much responsiveness and it's hard to tell what's going on with collision detection. It's not made any easier in that it's also a race! So, you need to clear the course faster than anyone else.
There's a (common?) design problem here in that events like these are really opaque to players. I never knew how well/poorly I was doing until I got to the end and found out! This was a bit frustrating and I think it would have benefitted a lot from giving me times of my opponents, or a ghost to race against or some other sense of the general quality of my play. Should I speed up here? Can I take it easy? Etc.
In the real event each contestant (except the first) at least has an idea of the time they need to beat. Here, as far as I could tell, you don't have much info at all. I can't be bothered to go back and check (perhaps it's there and I didn't notice), but the idea stands. Here you're racing AI opponents - so there's no reason the game can't give me a target to beat or at least some sense of urgency if I'm doing really poorly!
