Huh. I guess I was more interested in the game than I thought because I played it all the way to the end.
Things didn't radically change - the shooting still is "meh" and the driving sections pretty poor. But, there's one more thing I thought I'd write about...
So, on occassion you'll see a 007 logo flash on the screen. It's supposed to indicate a "James Bond signature moment", and it usually means there's something you can shoot that will have a nice effect in the game. For example, you're being attacked by three goons - 007 moment - and you can shoot at a spot in the ceiling to a chandelier crashes down and takes them out. They're a nice design addition that make the game feel more "Bond" than any old shooting game.
Oh, also as a surprise - a spotted the name of a colleague in the special mentions part of the credits! That was unexpected.

This one is so much better than the other DS James Bond I recently played!
I think they've got the real actors to do the voices as well?
Anyways, pretty straightforward FPS style shooting, there's some TERRIBLE driving sections (control scheme is interesting though - you slide the stylus left and right on the touch screen to control the vehicle's turning). I have no real idea what's going on in the story - but there's a villain, and secret information...and, A CASINO LEVEL. And, it's MONTECARLO!
By far the coolest thing in the game so far is when you meet the bad guy and play Poker with him! (that is so, so Bond!). It's a "regular" Poker game (Texas hold 'em - 5 cards faceup on the table and two in the hand). Your goal is to win all the money - but, neat thing is that the game tells you to pay attention to the bad guy to see if you can spot his "tell" (and thus know when he's bluffing or not!). It's pretty easy to "tell" - but the idea of winning at poker NOT from the actual game, but from a social aspect was really neat. It's also really consistent with the source material which is an added benefit.
There's also a neat lockpicking system/mechanic that I hadn't seen before(?). First you move your cell phone over the front of a safe to find a "special zone" (phone lights up green). Then you, must rotate the dial until another thing lights up green - it goes from red/yellow(orange?)/green. If you overshoot you have to move the dial all the way around. Do this three times and the safe pops. All of this under a time limit of course!
I'm not sure I'll play the whole thing - the shooting parts are not that interesting/exciting, but so far the little "flavor" mini-games/activities have been a really pleasant surprise.
