Okami, Okami, Okami...
I received this game as a christmas gift (2006), but I had been following the game ever since Capcom announced it (as I tend to do with most, NEW, Capcom games...And even MORE SO with CLOVER games...) about 2 years ago.
First, and Foremost, the art style had my attention from the very first gametrailer that I watched back in 11th grade.. Beautiful, Calligraphy Brush strokes on watercolor paper; Delicate use of washed-out colors, and traditional japanese style interpretations of Mountains, Water, Clouds, etc... I was thouroughly impressed, especially because all of this was in full 3-D. All I could say was that Clover had done it again.. first with Viewtiful Joe (though it was mainly a 2-D game, with 3-D elements)... and now with Okami. GORGEOUS!!
Second, When I saw who, better yet, WHAT the playable character was, I was doubly intrigued. A simple Wolf... (that was all the information I knew back then. I had no Idea that the wolf was some mystical God reborn...)... Not only that but a wolf that FIGHTS!... And not just, oh, little bites and barks... NO, we're talking full blown backflips, pile-drives, and SPIN KICKS!... I was sooooooo impressed (The fighting gamer in me couldn't resist). I couldn't wait to get my hands on this game.
So, It took me about 3 months post-release for me to actually get the game (At a REDUCED PRICE!)...and I am currently 15 hours into the game. Supposedly this is a 30 hour game, but I have a feeling that it is going to take much longer for me to complete, simply because I have soooo many blank slots on my weapons inventory screen, as well as the enemy index... and this far into the game, has already proven to be something truly unique, and special.
Atmosphere does a lot for a game, especially when done right.
