    Sego001!'s GameLog for Firewatch (PC)

    Saturday 31 March, 2018

Soooooooo I had an adventure and dropped my laptop out of my car so it has been in repair the past two days and subsequently I didn't even think about my last post for my gamelog but here we are.

Things got... dark. I finally had the first big wild fire on my hands which seemed semi back ground noise to the other dialogues going on in the game. But everything felt, Very uncomfortable? There were weird gaps in the story that didn't seem to fit together as they should and things seemed off. I got the sense that I was being watch both but all of the strange happenings and I discovered a written transcription of the conversations I had been having with Delilah.
Overall this game was challenging mentally, It left me with an unsettled feeling and I did find myself as a student struggling to make connections to any ethics theories with the game as a collective whole. I will probably play a few more independent sessions before writing my paper so I can get a better flavour of what was going on maybe if it is just to settle some of my uneasiness.

(completely irrelevant but I do want to comment on how visually appealing this game was to me and I think it is interesting that there was a gradual shift from my first game session to this calm comforting presence of a game to something that just felt very ominous)

I’m sorry to hear about your laptop, hopefully it’s working fine now.

I completely agree, the game is gorgeous to look at and it does get eerie as you continue to play. I guess it's to be expected when your alone in a forest and your only line of communication is a walkie-talkie.

For writing your essay, I would take a look at how the game made you reflect on your own ethics. You mentioned that in your first gamelog for Firewatch and if the game made you question your beliefs, it would be worth it to look into what the developers did to make you question your beliefs. Perhaps the game has an ethical framework that is so compelling it is even making you reconsider your ethics.
