Jade's GameLog for Megaman 2 (NES)

    Thursday 11 January, 2007

Oh man, I just had to add this, a second after I posted my last complaint, the guy sitting across from me's cell phone went off with the Wily Stage music as his ring tone.

This sort of adds evidence to one of the points I made in the mysterious dissapearing entry: The music is catchy.

Don't worry about it, I've just learned a valuable lesson about never trusting campus computers. *halo*

Hey Jade, I wanted to respond to some of your questions on my blog but I wasn't really sure where to put them but you mentioned music in this one so I figured it was as good a place as any.

As far as when I notice the music, it kind of depends on how good it is or how important to the overall experience it is. For example, I didn't like the music at all in Resistance because, once I did notice it, I realized that it wasn't very good. But the music in tons and tons of different games, from Monkey Ball to Call of Duty 3, really comes out and grabs me. The one other component to it aside from its overall quality is how well it fits the rest of the gameplay experience. Monkey Ball's got catchy music, not something I'd listen to on a regular basis or anything, but it goes really well with the levels and pacing of the game.

I actually do play quite a few games muted, but I just can't do it with games that have a great soundtrack. I guess I'd have to play a music all the way through without music first then go back with the sound on and see. I've got self-control issues!

When it comes to how long it takes music to make in impact on me, I think it's a little both. I need to be instantly turned onto the music in a game (once I form an opinion about something I'm stubborn so it tends to stick), but if I hear it enough times, that's what makes me feel attached to a game with good music.

I guess even when music is good, there's a difference between it fitting the game really well and being simply good in its own regaurd. Thanks for thinkin through that. Just sort of some questions that might show up for developers.
