I'm ever fascinated by the amount of time I spend playing on video games. While I could attest to the fact that it is the winter time, and it's very cold outside, I still feel sudden urges to go out and meet new people and hang out with my quote unquote "real friends". Thankfully, these urges have been suppressed by the newest addiction to my aresenal of "visually stimualting narcotics" called World Of Warcraft. I picked this game up just recently, (or was it a while ago?? I'm not too sure since once you become enveloped in this fantastic world of lights, colors, sounds, and...sheep, you tend to lose track of time), and I have become an instant fan of its gameplay mechanics and design. I love the Warcraft series, actually I love anything Blizzard does, and yet it is a mystery to myself as to why I hadn't picked up this game when it first came out. If memory serves, I do believe there was that small issue of paying a subscription fee, and being a poor bum college student that dines on Top Ramen everyday, I was a little sketchy on committing to this MASSIVE multiplayer online. This unfortunate setback however all changed after the Christmas season, where Santa decided that by jamming some cash into my stocking and subsequently throw me into the sprialing vortex of drudging through caverns and incessant grinding, was the kick start I needed to start my year off with a bang. And thanks Santa. You didn't dissapoint ^_^.
World Of Warcraft is just that. It's a WORLD. And there's some war going on. You ain't doing much crafting (unless you're professions are leatherworking, blacksmithing, blah blah blah, etc.) but the general idea still holds. It's an online RPG, where you get to live out your childhood dreams and pretend to be one of the several unique, and sometimes stereotypical races in the Warcraft Universe. You could be a human, which makes sense because nothing says "I still wanna be normal, in and out of the game" than the human class. You could be the dwarves, whose temperment and thick Scottish accent would make Shawn Connery's lip curl. You could be the night elves, who for some awkward reason, are tall and quite Asian, two descriptions that are stark contrasts of each other, unless you're Yao Ming, (for those who disagree with me, take a loot at Night Elf architecture...I swear they're pagodas). You could also be the gnomes, for either comical relief or for the plain fact that you can always win in online games of hide-and-go-seek. For you evil-doers out there, you could always be an orc, who for some reason sound and look like a mix between Yoda and the Hulk. You could be the gnarly trolls that speak with an amusing Jamaican accent, and I hear they're good when you want a call for a free psychic reading. The minotaur like Tauren is also another class, and I guess Blizzard thought it'd be a great idea to make them sterotypically Native American with their reverence to nature and what not. That and their names start with something like Running With Deers or Dancing with Coyotes and what not. Finally, there's the undead, which is a virtual representation of how people who play the game for three days straight would look like.
Regardless about what the game is about and all the neat little things you can do in it, this is a game log, not a game description. I'm currently playing a dwarf hunter in the Fenris server known as Grigmaw, a rather obscure reference to another dwarf in the game Neverwinter Nights. And I do mean obscure. Today, I've been trying to save enough gold to try to purchase a rideable mount that you can use to explore areas in relatively a short amount of time. Hell, it's the faster way to travel in the game basically. I've managed to get my cash via selling ores and gems from my profession in mining, where I basically find mineral veins around the areas that I play and "mine" them for minerals. I have a nice armored pet boar named Kamikaze that's vicious as he is cute looking. It serves as a nice tank pet when I go on instances or commit to just solo-action. I've only 10 gold to go before I can get my mount. I've been hitting a certain instance (or minature dungeon) called the Scarlet Monastary about five times now, just grabbing whatever armor or weapons I can sell off to vendors and also for gaining experience. It's been on an off for me when it comes to actually playing though. The lag on my internet connection is dreadful, and things zip by me when I'm engaging in combat. That's it for me as of now. I've got more stuff to do. And for those who've never played this game before, I don't blame you for not understanding a single line of text in this entry. It just goes to show how deeply entrenched I am in (with a loud booming voice) THE WORLD OF WARCRAFT!!!
