mswitzer's GameLog for Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Wii)

    Monday 15 January, 2007

So I came back to the game a couple hours later in hopes that I was just in a bad mood from not eating, but nope, the game is still not fun. Every level is exactly the same, different compartment like rooms with bad guys who look exactly the same, the only difference being the scenery. Every boss is the same, just with substitutions for costumes and powers, but the entire game is just SO REPETITIVE that the desire to find out what happens next is completely overshadowed by how completely mindless the gameplay is. There are no puzzles or anything to make you think, its just hit the attack button, throw in a special move every now and then, and run around til you find the big bad guy, and spend a little longer fighting him. The only reason you would buy, rent, or play this game is if you are a marvel enthusiast, but even then, you would probably be so disappointed you would quit anyway. There is no strategy necessary for this game, the only thing you need to beat it is the patience needed to play however many hours it takes to win, and a free schedule. boo marvel alliance!

So, if you had been designing this game, what would you have one differently?

Pick something specifically. For example, you mentioned there were no puzzles. Do you have any ideas as to a puzzle that would have worked well in the game? If the gameplay was too mindless, what sort of complications or features would you consider adding to the interface and game engine that might make the game more fun to play.
