SUMMARY
Super Mario World is a 2D platform game. The game consists of 9 different worlds with 96 levels within them. While Mario and Luigi are away on vacation to “Dinosaur Land,” Bowser once again kidnaps Prince Peach. Throughout the course of the game, the player goes from the different levels and worlds, all of which become more difficult as the game progresses. Passing each level and moving on to each world gets the player closer to Bowser and rescuing Princess Peach. The practice provided in each level helps improve the players game skill to better be able to defeat Bowser.
GAMEPLAY
Throughout my gameplay I found myself to be in a very relaxed and calm state of mind. I’m sure that much of that had to due to the fact that playing this game for the first time after so many years brought me back to a sense of childhood. Aside from that, the music in the game gets one to a “fun” frame of mind. The colors also add to the mood of the game. The game consists of fun, vibrant, rainbow colors. It is very clear just from the music and look of the game that it is intended, but not limited, to kids.
The characters in the story also add to the “fun” atmosphere. One might even say that characters are cute. Mario is a short little man with a red hat and t-shirt in overalls. Whenever he dies or is injured he doesn’t die a horrible death, he merely jumps up and his eyes turn into “X’s.” There are also mushrooms that aid Mario. These mushrooms are either green or red and have very simple, but friendly, faces.
Throughout the entire course of the game the player continues to come across other characters, mostly helpers of Bowser, who attempt to slow down and hurt Mario. If the player kills (with the simple action of jumping on them, with no blood spilled) these characters, the player earns points and receives an overall higher score. The game is simple, but fun to play.
