Gameplay
For my second session of Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction i am as happy as I was the first time. The story is getting more diverse and the maps and enemies are getting even more fun to play. The weapons are even more diverse than its predecessors. The wacky humor is still going strong and the whole feeling is that of a great game. I really liked using the whip weapon. Although I wished that it would have always been deployed so that while walking around you had a flowing whip in your hand.
That aside the gameplay is great. There are big rooms with many enemies at once, and they are all very diverse. Some enemies are easier to kill with electricity while others are better with fire, while others are better to just use your big ol wrench to whack them away. The game is fun, and takes some thinking at the same time.
Design:
The level design on this game is phenomenal. The background is always moving, the surroundings are super detailed and the layout of everything is great. In the game you feel like you are very free to do what you want, while you are actually confined. The way that there is a building here or a huge boulder there is very subtle yet defines the way the game plays out.
As far as gameplay design goes, it is a lot like its Playstation 2 brethren but I liked the super smooth and accurate camera of this one much better. The implementation of the Six-Axis controller while Ratchet is free falling is very cool. It is nice to see a game actually use the controls in a challenge oriented situation, instead of the Wii's very annoying, "shake to run, move up and down to swim" and so on controls. There is not much in the way of innovation but the game is great the way it is. I really enjoyed playing this game and am very glad to call myself a Ratchet and Clank fan.
