I started playing this game the other day, and quickly found that I needed to bring some friends into it. It's that kind of game. Think Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, but with mutants. It's basically a hack'n'slash game, with some RPG elements: there are some numbers to ponder, your character improves as the game advances, there is some amount of dialog, and a large number of items to collect and wear. And if you don't like that part of RPG's, here you can set all the 'optimization' part to 'automatic', and set off to smash enemies.
The fact that there are a LOT of X-men there also makes of this title a great game (if you care for mutants, that is).
On the graphic side, the game looks like a comic, with the characters cell-shaded. The backgrounds are dynamic, which mean you can smash almost anything to pieces.
You command a team of 4 mutants, and can actually control one of them at each time. When you are controlling one character, the IA of the game takes care of the other three. So, even in single player mode you're never alone. And that's great. The IA is fairly simple, and does the job pretty well: it doesn't get in your way, and helps you out.
I think I will buy this for the Gamecube, just to try the multiplayer part.
