jp's GameLog for Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Master Quest (GC)

    Thursday 12 January, 2006

I've done quite a bit of playing since my last update for this game. Well, actually not THAT much. I played some before christmas and some more last night. I'm currently in the Forest Temple where I've found the map and I'm trying to make some more progress. The problem is, I keep on dying during a particular fight. It's against some skeletons with shields (first one, then two together). I just have not been able to deal with them and it is starting to get really frustrating. In particular because it takes a while to get there and since everytime you die you restart at the beginning of the dungeon... Well, you get the picture. I might try again a few more times but if I can't clear that then I'll just call it quits.

oh, the Forest Temple does tend to be difficult, especially in the Master Quest version.

Lemme tell you something--with the recent Zelda games, it is NOT shameful to look up a strategy guide online to get help in the right direction. I attempted it and was ready to throw my controller at the screen by the middle of the Forest Temple--by the way, a little advice regarding that particular Stalfo (the skeletons with shields) fight, which I have a feeling I know you are on.

That advice is to L-Target one, draw it away from the others, and jump around to get its back for a few cheap hits, then wait for it to jump-attack you and backflip (back and A while L-Targeting) and then move in for a wild succession of hits. They go down darn quickly.

The trick with the 3-D Zelda games is to be patient, no matter what. A Zelda game ALWAYS has a way out...you just have to think hard and long about it (with the puzzles) or dang quickly (with the fights). Translation: there's always a strategy.

    You're right and I agree.

I guess what gets me with the Zelda's is the having to re-start all the way from the beggining of an area when you run into trouble somewhere.

    Thanks for the encouragement!

no prob...my first (and most often played) N64 game was the original Ocarina of Time...believe me, I've played that thing over 57 times...Miyamoto never makes a game that doesn't have a way to fix any kind of mistake.

And a word of warning...get the strategy guide for the Water Temple. No one, and I mean NO ONE gets out of that dungeon without one.

Lies! Took me forever, but I did it.

If you ever come back to this game, my advice is to hunt down as many bottles as possible and never carry anything other than fairies. They fully heal you when you run out of life - there's a rather accessible fountain full of 'em shortly outside Forest temple, too.
